Todays Prompt: DAY 33 - Climbing the MI Tree
Today we are 1/3 of the way in our 100 day Journey into Motivational Interviewing, and I'm taking advantage of this milestone to start in a whole new direction, breaking motivational interviewing into its component parts.
The MI Tree graphic, developed by Yoshi Fujimoto, an MI trainer in Japan is an attempt to lay out all of motivational interviewing in one beautiful graphic.
As someone who loved to climb trees as a kid, seeing this graphic takes me back to the fun of exploring each giant branch as it reached out to the sky, the joy of climbing way far up and being hidden from people on the ground, and the beauty of the perspective of seeing the world from a high vantage point.
My intention is that we will start tomorrow exploring each branch of the tree one by one. I do have a certain method to which branches I like to start with when I am doing a training in MI, and I'm also aware that some of you may be working onone side of the tree, well I am sending out props on the other side of the tree. Let's see how it goes.
Today's Prompt: How does the big picture of MI look to you
Today’s prompt invites us to consider what the big picture looks like to you.
Please leave a comment or let me know some other way!

PS - Did anyone else love climbing trees when you were young?
PPS - How about Robert Frost’s Poem “Birches”?
“One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.”

Can you help me picture this beautiful scene with your son
As it I was watching it in a movie?
Comments from yesterday: Stand Where You Are
When I first learned MI, my goal was to develop a more empathetic way of communicating with others. Later, I realized that I needed to use MI with myself first—I am my foremost priority. By being more empathetic toward myself, I can build greater capacity and love for others, ultimately helping them more effectively. - Pei Fen

I loved climbing trees with all the kids on my street! Roots to branches, everything felt connected. That’s how MI feels to me: grounded, expansive, and flowing in all directions. Life affirming; just like a tree.
I LOVED climbing trees as a little girl. Robert Frost's poem The Road Not Taken enchanted me when I first heard it and it's been the theme of my life since.
I'm excited to climb the MI Tree with this group. Your 100 days is keeping me reminded and motivated to complete my application to the MINT - thank you!
