The main thing that sets MI apart from other conversations about change is the focus on ‘change talk.” Change talk is whatever the client says that is in the direction of making a change. Sometimes we break change talk into two types:

We can also break it into four parts, and we call these parts DARN CAT
In our MI Snack this week, I will be focusing on DARN CAT and we will do a little practice in pairs to get comfortable using this idea as a template for our conversations with clients.
