WV-MI: Dancing with Discord
Dancing with Discord is a key MI skill, especially with an ambivalent client.
In our MI Snack this week we will complete the video of Bill Miller and his conversation “Soccer Mike.” We will watch almost all of the video, start to finish, with no stops. The conversation goes all the way around the bases to the client describing a plan he think would work for him! Which is pretty surprising given where he started.
Here are the key points we will see in this video:
Engaging and focusing
Psychological Reactance
Dancing with Discord, ignoring the discord/sustain
Evoking Change Talk, especially lifting up the cost of the status quo.
Evoking a plan that the client thinks would work for him

New Format for Free MI Practice
We are trying out a new format for MI practice so that each person can practice for 5 minutes without interruption. It seemed to go well on Friday and Monday, and I think it will go better as we get used to it.
If you have not been in a while please give it a try again.
